Miss World 2017, Manushi Chhillar and Miss England 2017, Stephani Hill joined thousands of sailing fans to witness the exciting climax of The 2018 Clipper Round The World Yacht Race! They braved winds of 40 km this morning!

The Clipper Race is one of the biggest challenges of the natural world and an endurance test like no other! No previous sailing experience is necessary. Participants compete in a 40,000 nautical mile around the world race on a 70-foot ocean racing yacht!  The Clipper Race was the brainchild of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston who was the first person to sail solo, non-stop around the world. The event is now on its eleventh edition. This supreme challenge is taken on by ordinary, everyday people. Having completed a rigorous training course, participants are suited and booted in the latest extreme protection gear to commence the race of their lives! It’s an unparalleled challenge, where taxi drivers rub shoulders with chief executives, vicars mix with housewives, students work alongside bankers and engineers team up with rugby players or even a Miss World!

The sea does not distinguish between Olympians or novices. There is nowhere to hide! If Mother Nature throws down the gauntlet, you must be ready to face the same challenges as the pro racer! 11 months of endurance, navigating the Doldrums en route to South America, enduring epic Southern Ocean storms, experiencing South African sunsets, facing the mountainous seas of the North Pacific, the windswept Mersey welcomes our 2018 buccaneers to the finishing line!

We are delighted that the winner of the 2018 Clipper Round The World Yacht Race is Sanya Serenity Coast!! Congratulations to Wendy Tuck and her crew on this amazing achievement! Wendy is the first female skipper to take the top prize! Congratulations to our friends in the City of Sanya, China led by Mayor Xu too. This is the first time a Sanya boat has ever won this prestigious event! A big delegation has travelled all the way from Hainan Island, China to be at the finishing line! The celebrations have begun with firecrackers and confetti cannons! The parade of boats will soon begin!

And so began a momentous day, the first Sanitary Pad Machine in Mvezo at the birthplace of the late and great President Nelson Mandela who was born 18th July 1918
Exactly 100 years later and less than 50 meters from the dwelling, the father of South African democracy was born.
President Mandela was the greatest supporter of a women’s right to equality - he often commented on the “urgent need to solve the problems faced by the girl child when she begins menstruation”.
