One of the wackier photos I took for my book, HAUNTED BY HISTORY. The location is the Rose Cottage at the historic Pierpont Inn in Ventura, CA.
The reason why I created a fantasy theme instead of a ghostly one is simple. At that time, I didn't feel that the Inn's ghosts were visually interesting enough to recreate for the book. After all, one can only shoot so many ghostly-looking people climbing stairs and sadly gazing out windows before the whole visual theme becomes tiresome and cliched.
So I chose a theme I had always wanted to shoot...a silent film movie serial. I figured that if the Pierpont is truly haunted, any odd, vintage style photo shoot would likely stir up paranormal activity.
The theme worked. As our four-day shoot progressed, we began to hear all kinds of odd noises. Then on our last full day, @reneepaulette (right) finally had her first, direct encounter with a ghost. Others (including myself) were also on hand to witness it. She experienced the sudden smell of roses in a stagnant room, and had heard phantom female heels clacking across the floor at 4:30 a.m. She even recorded an EVP of a man asking, "Who's that girl?" while she was inside the Pierpont's other cottage.
Every now and then, Renee and I still talk about that shoot. I was with her when we heard the ghostly heels of a woman walking across the entire second floor of the Vickers Estate. That's an experience one doesn't forget. #steampunk #robot #paranormal #ghosts #haunted #hauntedhotel #paranormalactivity #craigowens #bizarrelosangeles #movieserial #oldhollywoodglamour #bookstagram
