I met Rafia long before I ever saw her in person. During the months that Diaw and I were separated, he would sit outside of his rented room, in this compound.
It was my first window into a world that I am now actually experiencing first-hand. I witnessed mothers breastfeeding, women pounding fufu (plaintain and cassava), and children climbing all over him as we plotted my trip to Ghana.
In this digital age we are now living in, it isn't strange to meet a person online before you do in person. Of course, that's how Diaw and I met too.
But, nothing will ever beat the real thing. ✨✨✨
