Happily ever after is only attained in Jannah & Jannah is only attained by worship & good deeds. Reflect & ponder, ask yourself, what have you done for His sake today? What was your intention when cooking dinner lastnight? Was it to just hurry up and get it out of the way so you can move onto the next chore of the day? Or was it to nourish yourself, your husband & children to help them flourish for the sake of Islam? Every good act is an act of worship if you have the right intention. (Reminder to me first, I’m writing this after cleaning the whole house just to “get it out of the way” doh 🤦🏻‍♀️

From the hours of 4.45 to 5.45 in the evening, the sun moves to this side of our apartment and sunlight shines in beautifully through our patio window. I love this time of the day- a short period of calm after a day full of activity and before the hustle bustle of the kids’ dinner and bedtime. It is slow, the sun is getting ready to go down, and as our energies start running out, I like to sit back on the sofa with my legs up and just look outside and relax and replenish before the final part of my day begins.

What do you do when you have a few minutes of calm as a busy mom? Do you check your phone? Visit social media? Answer texts and emails? Or take some time to meditate?
🖤
I was the last person who wanted to meditate at all! You see, I suffer from overproductiveness. Heard of it? I'm not sure it's a common term, but it's when you can't sit still, as you need to constantly be productive and do something to improve yourself - your kids, your home, your life! Even to the point of wanting to change the world in some small way.
🖤
*Sigh* I now realize what a sickness it is! Because your mind is never on a break or at peace. And this can cause anxiety, impatience, frustration, irritibility, lack of gratitude, and a disconnect from God.
🖤
Even if you're not as bad as me, say you don't take time to relax, refresh, and renew through meditation, you will suffer in some way. Because as a human being it is essential to take moments of calm to thrive and reconnect to God, and as a busy mom it is an absolute must!
🖤
So what I've learned to do, and many I see nowadays already do, is wear my prayer beads (tasbih) as a bracelet. When I have a moment to myself or I'm feeling agitated, I begin to meditate using my tasbih with my favorite words of astaghfirullah (I seek forgiveness from God). Immediately tranquility blankets itself around me. 🖤
If you've found your method of meditation, you'll know what I'm talking about! But if you haven't, you need to find a way to refresh yourself from life's toxicity! It's the only way to cope in a world that's become so chaotic and fast paced. The only way to get closer to God amidst the drudgery of daily life.
🖤
Do you have a way of meditating? I'd love to hear and I know many would benefit from it too!

Say yes this year and more often.

Say yes to your students when they want to sing Happy Birthday to each other. Say yes to them when they want to see your travel pictures. Say yes to less homework and more projects. Say yes and see your students blossom.

I'm not going to worry about how loud we are being when we sing Happy Birthday anymore because it might be the only time your birthday student hears the song sung to them for the day.

I'm not going to worry about sharing my travel pictures like this one and my culture. It might inspire my students to get a passport in the future.

And I'm definitely not going to worry about projects that might be messy, chaotic. My students won't remember the worksheet ten years down the road but they will remember the cool 1920s project or WWII project I assigned them.

Say yes and see your students blossom and witness yourself becoming a better educator. What are you going to say yes to this year?

From before the time of Moses when the people of Egypt did not believe in the truth until they witnessed Moses' staff turn into a serpent until this very day, we humans have always demanded proof.

Unfortunately, many of us tend to put the words of Allah and his Messenger on probation until it is proven by science, at which point we change into our religious jerseys and say, "See? Islam already had that one figured out."

Through my Speech Path and child learning experience and research I found myself in the same dilemma. There are so many lessons that Islam teaches us about the nature of children yet it took me two years of graduate studies and 6+ clinical settings to appreciate the beautiful correlations between Islam and mainstream research on child development. •

To save others the trouble and so that they may share my fascination, I present:

Three Things to Learn From Islam About Child Develpment

1. Babies start learning from the womb.

Mothers in the western world are always encouraged to read to their babies in utero. That is because babies can hear whatever is going on outside of their mother's belly. If you've watched Episode 3 of "For the Love of Learning" on my IGTV channel, I discussed how the baby begins to acquire language in utero and is able to tell the differences between all the sounds of language. What the western world doesn't know is that Islam had already that one figured out (had to say it).

It is highly recommended that a mother not only read Quran regularly during pregnancy (and after) but also be extra weary of her actions. There is a well known anecdote of a Muslim mother and father that were devastated... [Read full on www.flowersofmygarden.com/theblog •

“Motherhood has been a rollercoaster of a journey for me. Since having my first child I have gone through so many ups and downs with raising my little boys. "They make you laugh, and they make you cry," is the simplest way to describe it. But honestly, more than ever, I never knew a part of me was missing until I had my kids. And as much as I try to be a teacher to them, they have taught me more than I have ever expected. So what they have done for me, love unconditionally, taught me and helped me try to and be the best version of myself for them”

“I begun this journey, somehow considering myself a failure. a failure at the title i was meant to hold for a lifetime ahead. misplaced expectations + doubt had created a lingering cloud i couldn’t escape. until i accepted this position as my own. i’ve held many titles in my life, but this one is my most treasured. the one i’m most proud of. there are a few accomplishments in life that’ll continue to bear fruit, this is one of them. i’ll continue to pour every ounce into them, they’ll be eternally who i’ll belong to. my four reasons. each of them, including my husband + their father, have fulfilled a nook or cranny of my, once a fragile, heart. #wordsbyAscia tell me, what did you appreciate most about your mother? memories like this one stand out in my mind.” .

There's something so special about taking your kids to some of your memory filled childhood spots 💙 My dad would bring us to the beach with some dinner at least once or twice a week. My mom taught me how to toss rocks in the water and my dad taught me not to be afraid and how to keep steady in the water. We would come with my little brother who was the same age as my kids now. He's in high school now... man, does time fly or what!? .

What are some of your best childhood memories that you have taken or can't wait to take your kids too also? I'd love to hear about it 😍

Insha'Allah I will post a video later going over the Tajweed Tips as there are a couple of new ones in these Ayaat. Barak Allahu feekum ladies, for all of you taking the time to build a relationship with Surat Al-Mulk. Alhamdulillah ❤

Young children are well-known to be rapid-fire question askers! ❓❔❓❔ According to a recent survey of 1000 UK mums, some parents are asked nearly 300 questions a day from the minute their children get up ⛅ to the minute they go to sleep. 😴
Four year old girls were determined to be, by far, the most curious. They can ask a whopping 390 questions PER DAY! That averages out to about one question every 1 minute and 56 seconds. ⏩ ⏳ 😵

However, two can play at that game. Make sure you’re ALSO asking your child questions to get them thinking and responding as well. 💪

Encourage both critical thinking and creativity in your children by asking open-ended questions. Choose discussion starters like, "If you were invisible where would you want to go?" or questions that will give you glimpses into their level of self-esteem like, “What are three words you would use to describe yourself?” 💭

Asking no-wrong-answer questions like, "What do you think you’re good at?” can also help you gauge your child’s emotional health and see where some guidance and adjustments may be needed.

While it may be exhausting to get grilled all day, (and we all know Google does NOT have all the answers), remember that their question-asking is HEALTHY. Asking questions also proves they're naturally curious with desire to learn more about the world around them! 🌎

So the next time they start up... take a deep breath, practice patience, and hold space for that curiosity by nurturing it as best you can. 🌱
