Tonight I'm listening to Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge. Twelve years after I bought it, it's still my favourite album ever. I Never Told You What I Do For A Living is the perfect closing track. This album changed my life in more ways than I could explain on Instagram but it will always be very special to me. Revenge was always my favourite era of My Chemical Romance.

Everything But the Girl may just be my all-time favorite. They certainly get the most play time from me if that's any measure. Since their first release in 1984 ("Eden" in the UK and a self titled album in the US) they've been a constant on the soundtrack of my life. Most people remember them from their 1994 hit "Missing" and subsequent drum & bass music, but they are so much more than that. Tracey Thorn & Ben Watt have a long, storied career/relationship/marriage that has lasted 4 decades. Starting with early jazz inflected songs like "Each and Every One" they immediately caught my ear with sounds I could recognize as my parents' style of music but smart, biting lyrics a post-punk lover like me could relate to. Moving between folk, c&w, AOR and other genres with ease, EBTG always kept their core strengths & beliefs producing a solid series of albums that spoke to a listener's intelligence and heart. A tough act to accomplish. Although Tracey and Ben have released a number of solo albums in the last decade or so, I long for the day a new EBTG album is released. I can only hope. Stay tuned...

Ah... Kate Bush. Her first album "The Kick Inside" from 1978. I've posted both the US and UK covers. From the moment I heard "Wuthering Heights" on FM radio I was oddly hooked. Here I was worshipping the raw, guttural sounds of Patti Smith but at the same time madly falling for the helium fueled soaring vocals of a teenage British chanteuse. I guess what really spoke to me was Kate's intelligence. Songs based on literature, art & the human psyche were just too captivating to let pass by. Kate Bush would go on to have a long (though sparse considering her longevity in the business) recording career garnering a fiercely loyal fan base. I got to meet Kate in 1985 when she came to the US for the one and only time to promote "The Hounds of Love" which many consider her masterpiece (and I agree). I waited in line for over 12 hours at Tower Records in NYC just to spend about 1 minute with her and have her sign a cherished single. I was 24 at the time and doing something like this was not uncommon. One day I'll post about how I spent an afternoon at a record signing with the Psychedelic Furs and invited them home for dinner (they didn't accept). Until then, stay tuned...

This is where the love all affair began. Released in December of 1976, Blondie's self titled first album was the perfect mix of punk/pop I was waiting for all my life (all 15 years of it, that is). The girl-group sound, comic book lyrics, pure energy and Debbie Harry's delivery all added up to the perfect band for me. From the first second I heard "X Offender" on NYC's WNEW FM I was hooked for life. While Debbie Harry was a focal/vocal point, Blondie was the sum of many parts: Chris Stein's guitar playing and song writing, Jimmy Destri's farfisa organ, Clem Burke's drumming, it all added up to perfection for me. Blondie would go on to cross musical barriers with hits like "Heart of Glass" and "Rapture" and Debbie Harry would become the epitome of downtown chic as the years rolled on, but this album was where it all began. It was NYC in the mid 70s, the music scene was spawning bands like Blondie, The Ramones, Talking Heads and Television. It was an exciting, formative time in music and I was there... and strangely enough, I remember most of it! 🙂 Stay tuned...

Can't believe it's been six years. We miss you Amy.

I've decided to post an album every Friday (or until I get bored) that means a lot to me. My inaugural post is Horses by Patti Smith. Released on December 13, 1975, this album literally changed my life. For this fat, gay, bullied teen in catholic high school, Patti Smith was my savior. When she sang "Jesus died for somebody's sins, but not mine" I knew she understood everything I had ever questioned up to that point in my life. It was going to be a wild ride from then on. Stay tuned...

This band changed my music direction, I'm heart broken with the news, so glad I got to see you live 💔

Finally hanging posters in my new room. I've been carrying this one around for over ten years. I'll never forget that time in Atlanta that I had the pleasure of meeting @imogenheap
She gave me a big hug and said, "WOW. Your makeup looks better than mine...I need to get you to do my makeup for a show someday." If she ever comes to Jacksonville FL best believe I will be blowing her social media up! #imogenheap #speakforyourself #musicthatchangedmylife
