Remember that onstage you're not playing just for yourself, you're playing for an audience, and they're not experiencing all of the thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations that you are while playing your instrument. You have to get a little extra "oomph" or excitement behind your performance and channel that out into the audience all the way to the very last row of the hall. It's very apparent when a musician is playing onstage only for themselves or when they are giving everything they have to an audience. Think about this the next time you have an opportunity to play onstage. It is actually a very freeing sensation because you get out of the tiny little box in your own head and start really living, breathing, and performing for someone else.
