I’ve talked a lot about how important it is to utilize breathing as a means to lower the alarm senses, and overcome physical guarding whether in massage, exercise, stretching or just day to day work. One of my favorite analogies is comparing the process of breathing to that of wearing shoes. How shoes and the strength of their laces represent the control we have to breathe. 🔻Sometimes we breathe like an untied shoe, uncontrolled, unstable, quick, shortened. Unknowingly leaving us vulnerable to compensations, shrugging and rounding of the shoulders, heart rate increased, and creating what’s a acute in onset into a chronic condition. 🔸Now we tie those shoes, meaning: breathing with a purpose, maximizing lung capacity, inhale for 5 (nose), hold for 4, let go for 6 (mouth), we notice a sudden drop in overall firing. Awareness of posture, the ability to process a thought clearer, and stray from the inevitable chronic happenings that originate from poor breathing patterns.❗️Next time you take the 6 seconds to exhale try partially closing your mouth, and like a wooden train whistle mimic that noise as that breathe releases. Notice the control as exhale finishes.

➡️Sciatica is an inflammation/ irritation of the sciatic nerve, the biggest and longest nerve in the body. Several nerve roots leave the spinal cord and exit through holes in the sacrum to then combine with the sciatic nerve. Sciatica is usually marked by pain, numbness or tingling on down through the nerve pathway, in this case usually beginning in the buttock region and typically running down the posterior side of the leg through the hamstrings, back of the knee, down the calf and oftentimes extending all the way to the outside of the foot.

➡️Soft tissue and cupping therapy are the recommended treatment plan to do. By applying negative pressure or suction to any tight muscles surrounding it, they could alleviate the pressure caused by them and nourish parts of the nerve that may have been damaged by restricted blood flow.
