Chasing dream jobs and leading a mechanical life, the #artsy #bengali has lost sight of their roots. My first solo #streetart #mural in the #cityofjoy #kolkata tries to unite us to the legacy of #sukumarroy children's storyteller and poet through one of my favorite characters from his book of nonsense limericks #aboltabol #hukomukhohangla
Here's a rough translation for all those who don't know the language ... The greedy glum, From Bengal he comes,
See how he sits crestfallen?
Why is he sad? Has anyone asked?
Does anybody know why he's sullen?
His uncle Shyamadas, Who trades in weed and grass,
Is his only known family,
Maybe that's why all alone, He sits forlorn,
Maybe that's why he's so lonely?
Awkward and clumsy, He used to dance leisurely,
Full of mirth and glee.
All day he would sing, Whatever he found pleasing
An epitome of gaiety.
It was just earlier, He was enjoying for supper,
A heart banana puree.
Don't know thence what happened? Did his uncle kick the bucket?
Or did he sprain his knee? "Hear, hear", says Greedy glum, Advise me if you have some.
I find find myself in quite a spot.
A problem of fleas, Keeps me ill at ease.
I pine my days in that thought.
If they sit on the right, With all my might,
I strike them down with this tail.
Or if they choose left, I still don't feel bereft,
For the other is sure not to fail.
But here's the riddle, What if right in the middle
A bugger sat, then what suggest i'd do
Imagine my plight. How would I fight?
As tails I have but two.
