Day 14 #thebeinginbusiness
Write about someone I love.
I could spew a whole load of cheese about my husband ( who incidentally dislikes social media and photos so will probably never see this!) ... so I will...! Perhaps the thing I'd like to try to express, is that it takes a pretty incredible person to decide to move to the other side of the world, to somewhere they know no-one, have never been, somewhere they don't even speak the language, to learn a new culture, to fall in love and follow their heart even when they face xenophobia, racism and discrimination, to be willing to do any job going despite being highly educated. To commit to sharing their life with their lover even when much of their early relationship was spent in and out of hospitals, when it becomes a private joke that they're on yet another "date" in an Epilepsy Doctors waiting room, when they know that for them the "in sickness and in health" part of the vows is going to be forever part of their days. That for them quietly filling up pill boxes and giving their partner rests is going to be part of life. Forever. It takes an extraordinarily good man to ignore the Catholic patriarchy of his childhood and know that any child born of that relationship will need to be cared for equally by him, that some days and nights he might have to do all the parenting and also go out to earn in order to keep his family safe and well. ...
Epilepsy is pretty fucking bleak. Let me tell you. But the silver linging is it's a fantastic bullshite filter. Anyone not up to it isn't going to stick around but the ones who do are truly amazing.
... I know many women face motherhood and Chronic illness alone. Your strength and resilience inspires me. Know that you are seen and heard.
If my clients benefit from my Doula service they are only able to do so because my husband's got my back. I am incredibly lucky and proud to be his wife. Here's to the often unsung heros off small business - the supportive partners in the background! 💪🏻❤✨ #shemeansbusiness #doularising #dontforgetdads
