Hey Mumbai, we're back!
In 2017 we started work on the ambitious project of creating India’s second public art district in Mahim East (after Lodhi Art District in Delhi). We decided to work in Mahim East because it is a gateway into Dharavi - which despite being a culturally and economically dynamic space is still viewed only as Asia's largest slum.
We believe, instead, that Dharavi is a region of immense resources and potential in terms of human skill-sets and materials, with one of the most active recycling industries in India. It has also been a cultural instigator with several B-boys and rappers / Hip hop crews like the @slumgods emerging from the space.
Our intent behind doing the project in Mahim was to bring people to the region and spend time there to experience its vibrancy first hand with the aim of showing them the true nature of Mahim, and Dharavi.
We were overwhelmed with the response to the work we did last year with a mostly all Indian lineup of artists. This time we come back to build further on the Art District with an amazing lineup of international artists.
Visit the district and dont forget to use #mahimeastartdistrict for any of your shots.
Organized in association with Mumbai Municipal Corporation.
