Mughal ladies of leisure sartorial choices.
We are really enjoying all the fashion stories on @thevofashion. Great job @shefatwork!

Repost from @thevofashion - #Intersections: While @karanjohar ’s period drama "Takht" based on Shahjehan and Dara Shikoh dominates your social media feeds, @supriyanair muses over common sartorial sensibilities shared by old Delhi's Mughal subjects and modern Indians. Traditional ensemble for a recent wedding. Swipe for details of the embroidery and earrings ➡️ The dupatta and kurta are embroidered with Chikankari, one of my favourite Indian embroideries, with some Mukeish work (Picture 2 and 3). I matched Hyderabadi chaand-baalis (Picture 4) and an Emerald ring to go with it. ✅Chikan (shadow-work) is a traditional embroidery style from Lucknow, India. Literally translated, the word means embroidery. Believed to have been introduced by Nur Jehan, the wife of Mughal emperor Jahangir, it is one of Lucknow's best known textile decoration styles. The work is usually done on a translucent cloth for better effect of the embroidery (Picture 5). The reverse of the embroidery is essentially herringbone embroidery (Picture 6). ✅Mukeish work is a type of embroidery also done in Lucknow. This type of embroidery involves twisting thin metallic threads to create patterns all over the fabric (Picture 7). Traditionally done using silver, most of the work now is done using cheaper metals. Fardi ka kaam and Kaamdani are some kinds of Mukeish work more commonly done.

I will keep sharing more on Indian textkles and embroideries. So follow me @with.me.nazia

The beauty of ancient Indian art was the fine, delicacy and detailed craftsmanship. Besides the rulers and aristocrats, even a common man believed to live an extravagant life by creating overwhelming and rare artefacts/antiques. The artisans did not just flourish their imagination power but also left behind the mystery of art making.

The Mughal architecture is a mix of Islamic, Persian, Turkish and Indian architecture. Initially, sandstone was predominantly used to build with marble inlaid as designs. Vaulted gates and bulbous tombs are signature features of this architecture.
I personally am very fascinated by this architectural style.
What is your favourite kind of architecture?

The most beautiful golf course i would say ❤

No this is not a painting. This is Royal Springs Golf Course, Srinagar. This picturestque play area lies on the Indian side of Kashmir, and bang opposite to the famous Dal Lake.

If you see in the backdrop, you will see an old structure on the mountain. This is Pari Mahal (fort of the angels). It was built in the Mughal era by Dara Shikoh. Dara was the eldest son of Mughal ruler Shahjahan. Shah Jahan, as some might already know, had built the world famous Taj Mahal in Agra.

Kashmir was very very famous with the Mughal rulers. It is now very famous with the golfers 😎
