I came upon this wonderful kea friend high atop the Lake Hauroko lookout track. Their intention was to distract me while a friend made an attempt to gain access to my backpack. Fortunately I was able to prevent a hiking pole theft 😉
This hike was reasonably challenging, but the view was definitely worth the effort. I also noticed quite a few native birds after reaching the lookout. The sandflies were quite thick near the lake, with far less on the trail up, and at the top.
Fun fact - Lake Hauroko is the deepest lake in New Zealand, and is part of Fiordland National Park.
