I'm heading for a master's degree at the #uofa so prepare for some posts like this that deal with my studies. Today I'm blogging about taste... Senses are how we filter our world into information that the brain can use. Sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste: our five basic senses. Each carries with it a dual meaning. #Taste, for example, applies to more than just how we perceive what touches our tongue. Taste also refers to our perception of information gathered by all senses, and manifests in its own practical sense as our likes and dislikes. #Coffee drinkers, for example, have a favourite place to get theirs. It may be mostly contingent on flavour, but factors such as price, company #philosophy, and atmosphere can all play a role. These are all matters of taste. I like the philosophy of the #coffeeshop up the road from me, and I like their coffee, but I dislike paying more than $5 a cup. A friend of mine, on the other hand, goes there twice a day. That doesn't make either of us worse or better, we simply have different tastes.
