Rated PARR Review: A Simple Favor 🍿 🎬
Directed by Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters: Answer The Call)
Tone is such an important aspect of filmmaking. It gives the movie a North Star to point to and allows the audience to know what type of experience they’re going to be in for. When tone is completely off from what the original intent of the film is, it can tank a project *cough* Amazing Spider-Man 2 *cough*
The tone for this movie shouldn’t work...but it does. Director Paul Feig is coming off of a horrible movie with the last Ghostbuster reboot so going into this I was skeptical to say the least. This Gone Girl take on a Feig comedy WORKS. Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick play the best versions of each other with Anna doing her best quiet, nerdy self and Blake going full on, bitch villain to the extreme. The look of the film is sleek with a TON of style. The murder mystery is intriguing and will keep you guessing through out. 🍿
The comedy is present but doesn’t over take the movie. Great performances, good script, awesome comedic timing, this was a pleasant surprise and I can firmly say, welcome back from movie jail Paul Feig, it’s happy to have you back. Now where is our Bridemaids 2 already!
