I can’t help but think of how much of a blessing it was to be by myself for a couple of days. Even if you’re not married, it does a soul well to be by yourself and in silence for a while. I deactivated my Facebook during this time so I couldn’t be distracted (Instagram doesn’t distract me like Facebook does). It can take a whole day or even two or three to truly silence yourself and listen to God as He speaks, but it’s so worth it. If you are able to take a weekend (or more) away, I highly recommend it. There are many retreat centers that will offer a room and meals for a small fee. Oftentimes monasteries have guest rooms and beautiful, quiet grounds. Don’t think you’re too young or too inexperienced in prayer to take a quiet retreat—anyone can and it can be a very powerful experience!
