I ran my Monday Tempo Run in beautiful San Diego where you don't have to get up before the crack of dawn to beat the heat! Whoo Hoo!
Before starting my run I received a text from my Monday Morning Training crew in Phx that each of them nailed their workout!!! So between the ocean breeze, breathtaking views and the inspiration from my morning text, I was delighted with my 7-mile long Tempo run๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ƒTempo runs should feel comfortably hard and you should try and keep an even pace. Tempo runs help to build your lactate threshold. LT (lactate threshold) is the exercise intensity at which blood lactate (lactic acid) begins to exponentially increase. With enough training at the correct pace (85-90% of max HR or about 15-20 seconds slower than 10k pace) you will eventually be able to run a faster pace before lactate begins to accumulate faster than it can be removed.

Today marks the start of a much needed recovery week! In the past, I didn't take recovery weeks. The closest I came was tapering before a race, little to no running the week after a race, time off due to sickness/being too busy, or extended periods of time with no running. Taking a week for recovery every month has made me work harder on my tough training weeks, knowing I have some scheduled recovery. My coach must be a genius because the recovery weeks always come when I'm just starting to feel like I need it. Photo is from a much sunnier day than today. โ˜”๏ธ Happy Monday! ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ
