I felt her today, I have been hearing her in my internal dialog since mid December, she demands more, she wants to come out! She seeks to move, she seeks to hunt, she calms down after movement. She is my WILL! She is the I am, that I am! She is the power inside of me that I had no idea I could germinate. So grateful to be able to love and challenge my body, today was day six of movement never thought I could do it... Done it and even did something I have never done before...wrestling! Ha! my WILL loved it!

She was working on heavy sets of 1 #deadlift. We worked up to 135 (PR) , then failed at 140 and even 135. We stripped the weights down to 125, then worked on different starting positions with PVC pipe, then added weights with smaller increment. Towards 6th set, she got back 135 and hit a 2nd PR of 140 at the final set.

Now, Debbie looks awesome right? You can be as awesome and strong like her too, here are some tips:
1. Do NOT be afraid of weights.

2. Strength training will not make us (women) bulky. Too much ice cream and cake do.

3. This is 1 repetition maximum (1RM) strength effort, it requires decent technique and form to perform. Unless you are advanced lifter, have a coach/trainer to watch/spot you.

4. Record your lifts and review. If coach/trainer is not available, can show the recorded video and ask for feedback later.

5. Open to feedback. Find out what causes the failed attempt, acknowledge and willing to work on the weaknesses.

6. Ignore the inner voice that says 'you're not strong' instead of that, tell yourself 'I GOT this'. Your mind self-influence power can be quite scary (in a good way)

7. Leave your ego at the doormat.

8. Do NOT compare yourself with other people. No two persons' training & lifestyle, and fitness levels are the same. Please only compare with the yesterday version of yourself.

The above tips are from my own experience in strength training. Feel free to add on.😃 I am still learning to be a better lifter everyday.

#flatrunner Lizzie is ready for tomorrow’s Sacramento @giantrace! For the first time ever, I’m not experiencing any pre-race jitters. This is probably due to the fact that I’ll be walking this one. The good news is that I will be doing this with my husband who knew I was going to be experiencing all the #FOMO and didn’t want me to feel alone in walking. Your bout of low back pain is over, congratulations, you made it through! Now what? If you were paying attention 😉, I mentioned one of the greatest predictors of low back pain is history of low back pain. So, I'm sorry to say folks, you aren't quite out of the woods.

You may not be able to alter the genetic components that predispose you to low back pain but you bet your butt you can have an impact on the more important aspects.
.
The physical piece of the pie, to me, is comprised of two aspects: creating resiliency and minimizing threat. Creating RESILIENCY means getting that core in shape and not in the Zac Efron washboard abs kinda way. I'm talking about core activation and your ability to control your torso through several different positions and loads. Minimizing THREAT is about back education and understanding what positions and prolonged postures put us at greater risk as well as what positions are safe and protective.

The psychological aspect, in my opinion, trumps. Learn how pain works, what it means, when it can be deceptive. Cliché level 1000: "We always fear what we don't understand." Don't fear pain, understand it.
