DAY 21/100: GOD PROVIDES FOR OUR NEEDS
As the Israelites walk away from the Red Sea, they begin to get hungry and thirsty. They start complaining to Moses, wishing they were back in slavery so they could eat! They didn't see any way they could survive in the desert. .
God hears their cries and provides a solution: He will rain down bread from heaven each morning. Every family could only gather enough food for that day. Except the day before the Sabbath, they could collect enough for two days. If they took more than their daily bread, it would spoil. God also provided quail at twilight each day. .
God is also our Provider, our Jehovah-Jireh. Every single day, He is the One who provides for our needs. Sometimes it's easy to forget that it's God and not us. He allows us to work and earn money to buy food and other necessities for our family. The ability to work is a gift of His provision.
I appreciate that God only allowed the Israelites to collect enough food for each day--it means they had to depend on Him daily. We often recite the Lord's Prayer and say, "Give us this day our daily bread," but do we take the words to heart? Do we rely on God for provision, not just in times of scarcity, but every day? .
One of my favorite things is hearing about how God shows up and provides for a need like only He can, just like with the manna and quail! Years ago we attended a little church that was struggling financially. Out of the blue, a family member of an attendee decided to mail a five-figure donation because he needed a tax deduction. The most amazing part is this man was an atheist! It was totally God providing for our church. .
How has God provided for you recently? .
