It’s been a whirlwind of a weekend, and quite frankly, I’m tired. I’m taking a week off from #idodeath for some self care, but I’ll see you all next #MortuaryMonday 😘💜

Albeit far less glamorous than your typical princess, Funeral Directors aren’t so different. Check out “Never, Not On” for this week’s #MortuaryMonday Link in bio

This distended jugular vein is simultaneously every embalmer's dream come true and worst nightmare. 🔪Super easy to find, but also super prone to busting without permission.😆

Mortuary Monday!☠️ Dead bodies sometimes just don't want to cooperate, folks. Decomposition is a runaway train sometimes and, well, not every body is going to end up perfectly preserved, firm, and pretty.🌻 So us deathcare workers have all kinds of tricks to contain the bulk of unpleasantness that is just a normal part of bodies breaking down. If a body is being leaky and really just isn't working with you, sometimes you've just gotta wrap some parts in plastic to save the deceased's clothes and casket (and, you know, the funeral attendee's noses. . .). There are all kinds of ready-made plastic sleeves, pants, and full-body suits one can use to contain the situation. This picture shows a solution to the problem of having so much leakage that even the plastic can't contain it. Simply open the drain near the toes and suck all that stuff out! Nobody needs gore-filled water balloons attached to the body causing invisible stress to the funeral director during the service.🎈 I know. I know. It's a glamorous job, but somebody's gotta do it.👍🏻😃

Carved wooden coffin dishes! -For none other than... (wait for it,) #mortuarymonday !!!
I've really been "digging" (get it?!) using wood as a medium lately. It's nice to have something I can work on for a short amount of time and put right down when I need to. Plus, all the fancy woodworking Instagram accounts will tell you I've basically mastered the craft! 😘😘😘😀
Anyway, I think these are pretty cool. I put cork on the back to help keep em from sliding, and the possibilities for their use are endless! 😃

BE WARNED / second photo. (Shows an open incision 💉) Y’all this is an embalming machine. A pump essentially. This is the device that allows the mortician to embalm the body of a deceased individual. This involves embalming the arteries. The second photo is your incision site, and a pretty good looking one might I add 😍. Usually the incision is made into the jugular vein for drainage and held with angular forceps. The arteries are embalmed by simultaneously introducing embalming fluid (a mixture of formaldehyde, other chemicals, and water) into an artery while draining the blood from a nearby vein or from the heart. It takes about two gallons of fluid to embalm a typical body. 🤷🏼‍♀️⚰️😍 Love and soooo ready for this new chapter.
