I've been crying at this lake far too long. The world needs to know. Our king is dead; forever in our hearts and minds, and always there to guide us on our way.
I go to the castle. I can't do this.
"Gwen, knights, I'm, I'm afraid to say that the king is dead," I manage to choke out, "I'm sorry Gwen, i trie everything. I-i even tried magic."
Everyone looked at me horrified. I don't know if it was because i used magic or because i told them their king, loved one, friend, and family.
"Mer-merlin," Gwen started talking first, "I'm, I'm so sorry. I-i, I know how much he means to you."
I fall to my knees, hands over eyes. I feel a few hands on my back, feeling my movements as their own. I'm mumbling about how I couldn't save him, through all my magic, with all I possess, I couldn't save the one I love.
~few days later~
"Merlin will rule at Gwen's side. They both have their own will and strength to provide our kingdom with survival until the next suitable king is found.
With love and sorrow, Arthur Pendragon. Deceased king of Camelot." I stumble out my words, afraid of what each line will bring but each line only brought joy and magic and love. Arthur was planned, I guess he always was. Gwen looks over to me.
"Merlin, you must assume the throne now before everyone people only think of me as their ruler. Please Merlin, we're both devastated. I can't do this without you."
I simply nod, still awestruck by the words on his testimony. Gwen leans in, wrapping her arms around me, immediately sobbing.
"Thank you Merlin. Thank you."
