Soooo one of my friends mentioned something she has been doing in her spare time. 5k walks through Virtual Run Events. I thought at first 'There's no way I'll be able to do that. But then I realized that I'm actually walking that most days while trying to get my steps. So I signed up for three races.
The cool thing is by signing up for these you help the site provide food, shoes, schools, school supplies, water, toilets, toys and other needed things to people throughout the world. The other cool part is that some of the money also goes to the designated charity for each run.
So since I found some past ones from this year that are on clearance I decided to go for it. My first one was The Walking Day 5k. The cool thing is it was designed for TWD, but the charity for this one was the American Heart Association. And considering my mom passed from a massive heart attack this one spoke to me on SO many levels. It was for her.
My next one was A Race to Remember 5k and 10k. You could choose which one you wanted to do and I stuck with 5k for the time being. I love this medal because it celebrates those we lost in 2016. The only person that could have been added to make this medal perfect for me is George Michael but all in all it's rather perfect. Plus the charity for this event went to the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance.
And last but not least is the race I finished today. The Mental Health Zone 5k. I have been outspoken with those also suffering from anxiety issues and other mental health issues about my own battle. My anxiety has always been a battle, probably a bigger one than I ever wanted to admit in all honesty, as well as depression for some time after my mother's death as well as other members of my family, but was the worst after hers. So when I saw this I knew regardless I wanted to be a part of it. I want people to know that it's normal not to always feel like sunshine and rainbows, as awesome of a feeling as it is. The cool part is I learned about the charity, Mental Health America.
I look forward to doing more in the future. Three down, more to come. #moonjoggers #5kwalk #walkinggoals #gettinghealthy #virtualrunevents
