We had a very relaxing yin class today at one of my corporate clients in Maquarie Park Sydney.
These guys have really worked hard to learn yoga poses over the last few weeks and have had some dynamic challenges. I thought it was time to treat them to some yin yoga indulgence! โค Time to zen out! .

Such a fashionable and over used word latley but basically it means be present and stop multitasking.
It is also " Be fully present, aware of where we are and what weโ€™re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by whatโ€™s going on around us".
Reasons I like mindfulness are:
๐ŸŒŸConnect better - Ever find yourself staring blankly at a friend, lover, child, and youโ€™ve no idea what theyโ€™re saying? Mindfulness helps you give them your full attention
๐ŸŒŸLower stress - Thereโ€™s lots of evidence these days that excess stress causes lots of illnesses and makes other illnesses worse. Mindfulness decreases stress.
๐ŸŒŸFocus - It can be frustrating to have our mind stray off what weโ€™re doing and be pulled in six directions. Meditation hones our innate ability to focus.
๐ŸŒŸStop brain chatter - The nattering, chattering voice in our head seems never to leave us alone. Isnโ€™t it time we gave it a little break?
๐ŸŒŸ Aids in healthy eating and weight loss - being present and chewing food slowly will help us eat sensibly and feel healthy with less digestive issues.

Feelings are often labelled as positive (happy, confident, joyful, brave, etc) or negative (sad, scared, hurt, angry etc). In mindfulness practice, feelings are not good or bad; they just are what they are โ€“ emotions that might be comfortable or uncomfortable, easy or difficult. We are often taught to feel that the experience of some feelings is wrong โ€“ โ€œYou mustnโ€™t feel like that,โ€ โ€œBe positive,โ€ โ€œDonโ€™t be sad/scared/hurtโ€ โ€“ and that the experience of some feelings is right โ€“ โ€œBe happy/brave,โ€ โ€œLighten up,โ€ โ€œMove on, get over it.โ€ This exercise is simply about noticing whatever you are feeling, at the moment you are feeling it, with a gentle, non-judgemental acceptance and curiosity.
So how did you wake up today? Observe how you feel.
Look at your mood as if you are a stranger looking in on you
The benifits are you will react better and be more in control of your feelings. You also won't dwell as much on the feeling and that will help with anxiety and depression.

Go for a WALK on your own.
For at least 30 minutes but try 1 hour if you can or why not go for it and take a big long 1/2 day hike!
Walk slow.
Notice the trees.
Mindful walk by noticing the way your heels meet the ground and how your toes stretch as you lift your foot up to step again.
Notice the smells around you.
Try listerning to relaxing music as you walk but take at least 20 minutes without music noticing the sounds along your walk.
Why walk today? To feel grounded, to clear your mind, to remind yourself of simplicity and how awesome that makes you feel.

Three Minute Breathing Space!. This.can be the perfect technique for those with busy lives and minds. The exercise is broken into three sections, one per minute, and works as follows:

The first minute is spent on answering the question, โ€œhow am I doing right now?โ€, while focusing on the feelings, thoughts and sensations that arise and trying to give these words and phrases.
๐Ÿ’ฎ๐Ÿ’ฎThe second minute is spent on keeping awareness on the breath.
๐Ÿ’ฎ๐Ÿ’ฎThe last minute is used for an expansion of attention from solely focusing on the breath, feeling the inโ€™s and outโ€™s and how they affect the rest of the body.

This is a simple one!
GO UPSIDE DOWN for clearing the sh*t from your brain!
Ok ok, I know we all can not stand on our head and I for one too ages to master this one! However there is all different ways you can go upside down! How about resting your legs up the wall while laying on your back, with a cosy blanket over you. After a long day, there is truly nothing more relaxing for our parasympathetic nervous system than to lay on the floor with feet high against the wall. Turn on some soothing music and inhale and exhale deeply. This pose helps create a sense of balance and peacefulness within the body and relaxes you completely from head to toe. LUSH! Also Sometimes we fail and fall hard. Inversions are a great way to work through such an environment.
Everyone has a strength that can contribute to an inversion- whether it be balance, physical strength, mental strength- and work from there. Some of us start at the very beginning with a certain inversion pose in mind that we would like to conquer But it takes patience to get there. When you fight through the obstacles, nothing feels better than knowing your hard work paid off.
Patience is key.

When researching I found that creative writing or blogging is beneficial in so many ways:
DEALING WITH HARD TIMES - In A study that followed recently fired engineers, the researchers found that those engineers who consistently engaged with expressive writing were able to find another job faster. FINDING GRATITUDE - Another study has shown people who reflected on the good things in their life once a week by writing them down were more positive and motivated about their current situations and their futures. IMPROVES MOOD - Much of the research on writing and happiness deals with โ€œexpressive writing,โ€ or jotting down what you think and how you feel. Even blogging undoubtedly affords similar benefits to private expressive writing in terms of therapeutic value. Expressive writing has also been linked to improved mood, well-being, and reduced stress levels for those who do it regularly.
SO TODAY - take out your pen or pencil and a notebook. Go to a nice spot in a cafe or perhaps outside and jot a word down, perhaps something you see. Then write words that describe that word/object, or how you feel about it. i.e. I wrote down 'plane' and then descriptive words I put down were - holiday, happy, love, airport, business class etc. You might also find you come up with poetry. I love this activity as it makes me feel good, it's also great to do with kids, and I like to do it outdoors, where I feel closer to nature! Your head is out of your phone, you switch off and you are able to look around and really LOOK! You notice more beauty in life. life seems less stressful and you feel at peace. .

How have you been going with todays activity? Have you been looking at people in the eye? What have you noticed when making the effort to engage more? People smile back right, when you smile at them! Your less caught up in your thoughts when watching the other persons engagement.
I love this activity. Today on the bus I gave eye contact to the elderly lady sat next to me and she smiled back and started asking me about Yoga as she could also see my yoga mats in my trolley parked just infront. She said 'I can tell your a teacher you look so healthy' . Bless her. So my smile and eye contact got me a compliment and I wasn't sat on the bus scrolling through my phone cluttering my brain!
Perhaps take this exercise with you throughout the week. Simple and effective!

Every Monday I love to share a delicious mindful activity with you because letโ€™s face it for some of us Monday sucks! We can make it easier starting the day with urban mindfulness.
We are in fast paced world where many of us live our life through our phones and ipads, work more than we play and multitask till we have lost sight of what is important to us. We often should be cleansing our mind and flushing out the accumulation of social media idealism, tired over worked brain cells and the rest! Yes we need to clear out the sh*t and start to see the real world again!
This is why I have created MONDAY MIND SPA! Yey!

This weekโ€™s activity is:
TO SEE PEOPLE! โ€“ Yes focus on making eye contact. Eye contact shows respect, interest, appreciation, understanding and can be make or break when forming new friendships.
I have often experienced an interaction where the other person spent the entire time looking down on their phone even though it as meant to be a catch up. It is infuriating and I feel disrespected, I know that my words go in one ear and out the other and I have no connection at all my that person. Quite frankly I feel pushed away. ๐Ÿ’†
This activity; making eye contact is not just mindfulness for you but for the other person too. Your eye contact will spark theirs. Like energy attracts like energy!
By performing this activity you become more present and indulge in your interaction more. You will notice things about the other person you didnโ€™t see before and you feel good mentally and emotionally.
When youโ€™re with someone, be with them.
