πŸ’š The volley board by #OscarWegner! Helps everyone's volleys πŸ™Œ Notice also how the student is hitting down and across "feeling" the ball slide on his strings. 🚨🚨 This is what I've been trying to explain for the past couple of years to people... Not sure what this coach is saying, but from the way he straightens her arm out, makes her start with the racquet all the way back, and bends her wrist it's clear his style of coaching is more conventional or traditional... aka Old Granny strokes. As you can see the result is her playing what is known as "baseball tennis." Which is hitting straight through the ball (almost a high to low motion 😬) with no "feel" or brushing up of the ball. There are more timing issues this way πŸ‘Ž If the coach had the student start by facing the net in the open stance position with the racquet out in FRONT emphasizing "feeling" the ball on the strings and the finish... Then she would have quicker results (consistency/feel) with her forehand πŸ‘

✨Little known fact about Mr. @RogerFederer ✨There was a coach at his first tournament who told him, "At most you can have coffee in a bar with those hands. You have no talent boy." "That guy made me grow in anger and changed my personality a bit." This is what led Federer to wake up at night to hit thousands of shots against a wall until he could convince himself that they were perfect. "I wanted to get there, but in front of me I saw too many obstacles and people who did not believe in me."

🚨🎾 High level competitive tennis is a game of emergencies 🚨🎾 Often there is no time to even step into the ball. This slo mo of @marincilic_official shows what happens all the time in high level matches and how effective the open stance is at getting balls back on the run. It's ok if you can't finish on your left foot that much, can still easily recover back to the middle. The sooner kids start learning the open stance the better. On BOTH sides. Serena and Richard Williams's style. Not Rick Macci's.

"Don't think. FEEEEEEL! It's like a finger pointing away to the moon. Do not concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory!" - Bruce Lee The concept of "feel" is an important principal in modern tennis and is 50% of what tennis is all about. Does anyone else know what the other 50% is? πŸ€”

Beautiful example @macxtennisacademy of connecting your body to the impact of the 🎾. (Aka "Staying in the legs") This is done by loading your weight on your outside right foot (for righties) and transferring it all to your left foot. Focus on pulling across the ball with your right pectoral and bicep muscles as opposed to just jumping from right to left. Finishing on the outside left foot also aids your recovery back to the middle of the court. This is how you use every pound of your body to hit a tennis ball!! πŸ™Œ

I like what Leon Smith has to say here for the most part. Notice on tip #2 he mentions starting with the racquet quite close to the ball. He then demonstrates if you start with a big backswing which puts your hand farther away from the ball, you will have more timing issues. Very true and excellent tip Leon! I also like the tip on speeding the racquet head up just before contact. This is how pros play and should be taught to kids as early as possible. @britishtennis

Lots of misinformation in the tennis world out there πŸ‘€πŸŒŽπŸŽΎ Keep it simple πŸ™ What shot are you working on today and how can I help? 😁

Notice how @grigordimitrov waits for the ball before his backswing initiates itself. He is never rushed. All his focus and even his racquet is out in FRONT. This is called "stalking" the ball and is a major concept in MTM (modern tennis methodology.) Prepare for the ball with your hand out in front early, but the idea of taking your racquet all the way back early is a MYTH.

Daily reminder. πŸ’―

🎾😎Tip of the Day 🎾😎 Get your practice matches in! Iron will sharpen iron βš”οΈ Try different strategies and think about what your opponent is doing just as much as you think about what you're doing. You either win or you LEARN! πŸ€”πŸ‘€πŸ’‘πŸ’₯πŸ™

🎾Tip of the Day🎾 There's a difference between a team that's self-motivated vs. a team that has been coached on every little thing to do in order to just "win." Not only will the self-motivated team perform better, but they will also have the freedom and creativity to exploit weaknesses in their opponents on the fly. By the time the other team can implement its "perfect" game plan, the style of play has already changed. Make sure you understand why winning for the team is good for you personally as well. @jockowillink

🎾Tip of the day🎾 There is not much I am going to teach you that deep down you don't already know. You don't need me as much as you think you need me. Not any coach or teacher is going to make you awesome if you're not ready or committed to it. The only "magic pill" is time. There are no short cuts. Focus on slow and steady progress and getting the most of your practice matches by trying different strategies. Align your head with your heart and feet.

Loving 🎾 is not enough. You have to also love studying the game. And you have to find THE WAY you enjoy studying. Is it through your coach? YouTube videos? Books? Commentators on TV? This is what separates you from the old guy who plays tennis everyday at the park because he loves it, but isn't a winning player.
