If we accept a negative thoughts without question, our bodies will physically react to them — it’s unconscious (sweaty hands, heart racing). That causes us to feel terrified, overwhelmed, panicky, etc. But is that thought really true? And is your emotional and physical reaction appropriate for the situation? This is probably the most important questions to ask yourself. Pausing to reflect and respond honestly, even for a split second— is a huge accomplishment. Try to challenge every single negative thought you have, especially if you’re directing that negativity toward yourself. It takes time and practice, but I promise that it gets a bit easier each time. It’s still extremely difficult for me as well. But we’re here to encourage each other, right? So be kind to yourself and celebrate those small victories. Keep going, try not to get discouraged, and remember that healing isn’t linear, but progress is progress.
