In 1977 Dr Lyle collaborated with Patdro, who happened to be the band Choreographer for their dance routines. He decided to hand pick young ladies from the ASU Flag corp to form the 1st dance line for the Alabama State University Mighty Marching Hornets band.
According to Patdro, Dr Lyle first came up with "The Bamarettes" as a name for the dance Line but decided to rethink the name after a moment or two.
During the brain storming session Patdro recalled Dr Lyle smiled and said, "Hornets sting you don't they?".....How about "The Stingettes"? (smile). Thus the name, "The Stingettes" was born.
Dr Lyle then hand picked 7 young ladies from the flag corps to be the Debut Stingettes.
