#TechniqueTuesday with a break down of @alexismorehouse catching a 76kg (167.2lbs) but she was slightly forward in the recovery and ultimately missed the lift. (Swipe right for the video)>>>.
Missing the “triple extension” was part of the cause of this. We wanted her to be fast under the bar, however being too fast at the wrong point (“be fast but don’t rush it”) can screw up your timing. You have to remember that when you make contact with the bar, that bar is weightless FOR A MOMENT, and in that window of you time, IF and only IF you were patient enough to finish your pull and close the hip at the right point, you will find the sweet spot of getting under the bar without overcompensating and jumping forward in your catch and recovery.
How to fix it: wait to pull until the barbell reaches the hips, and keep the barbell in close throughout the entire lift by also engaging the lats by squeezing your shoulder blades together and holding it.
Sitting under the bar and missing the lift in front of your very eyes can be disheartening but it just leaves us hungrier and more motivated than ever. We didn’t settle for 74kg snatch or a 75kg snatch, instead we chased a competition PR. She’s hit 75kg on the platform before. We knew what we were chasing. It’s okay to fail! Heck, I suggest it because you only learn from it!
