(near) DES MOINES, IA: Pretty bummed to learn that Cocoa and Butch didn't receive even one inquiry after their first post on SSD! 😨 For their entire life, these two bonded seniors lived in stressful home with "stuff" piled high to the ceiling. A few months ago, officials intervened for the safety of everyone in the home and their former owner was moved to a new living situation. And Cocoa and Butch were moved to the local humane society. The humane society is entirely outdoors and Cocoa and Butch share a pen. Cocoa is going blind and these sweethearts need a calm, cozy home for all of their final days. PLEASE SHARE!
Cocoa is 12 years old and Butch is 14 years old. They are both very mellow and laid back. They are friendly with humans and get along with other dogs. Overall, they are both very low key. When they were first taken from the home Cocoa and Butch were a little nervous, understandably. Neither of the dogs had much interaction outside of the environment they had known for their entire life. They will likely need help with housetraining as they transition into a new home, but they do show promising signs. And thankfully, both Cocoa and Butch are already fixed and HW negative!
The humane society is located in a rural area of Iowa and the full time caretaker, Don, works hard for the animals in his care. The shelter has limited resources and minimal visitors. Many of the dogs have lived there for years. While they still have each other, we are hoping that Cocoa and Butch get to find a real home for their final chapter of life.
To adopt Cocoa and Butch, please call or text Don at 515.293.2026 - PLEASE leave a voicemail if necessary!
