👉Simple tips for deloading.

🌵A deload week is a planned period of time where you reduce your workload to recover & recharge both mentally & physically. Generally cut your total workload to <70%.

🐮I personally deload every 4th week of training. How frequently you deload will depend on a number of factors like age, strength level, experience, & injuries. A younger, novice gym goer won’t have to deload as often as your seasoned powerlifter. Every 4-6 weeks as a general rule of thumb (longer for novices).

🥔Going long periods without deloading can lead to burnout. Deload *before* you start feeling the effects of overtraining, don’t wait until you’re completely burned out or forced to due to injury.

🤹‍♂️Because of the lighter workload, it’s easy to show up and just go through the motions. Instead, go in with a purpose, focus on dialing in your technique & speed on your core lifts. For hypertrophy work, focus on form & improving your mind-muscle connection.

🍄You want to feel fresh coming out of a deload week. Do your recovery work & avoid introducing new movements during deloads, which can cause increased muscle soreness & undermine the purpose of the deload.

If you don't have dumbbells get creative! Use water bottles, canned goods, salad dressings, a bag of flour, anything! - or just go through the movements as if you did have them!

The mind-muscle connection has been used by bodybuilders for many years, with the goal of increasing muscle growth.

In scientific terms, the mind-muscle connection involves using an internal focus of attention (thinking about a part of the body) instead of an external focus of attention (thinking about the goal of the movement). An external focus of attention is more efficient than an internal focus of attention. Probably one of my new favourite exercises for really targeting those lats. .

Rack Chins are great for developing those lats. Compared to pull ups, rack chins keep your body in a more stabilized position. This added stability eliminates any swinging, & allows you to focus more on the contraction in the lats. .

When performing the exercise make sure to keep your core engaged. Also, don't just go up and down effortlessly - keep the movements slow an controlled. This will really help to establish a good mind-muscle connection. Think wide lats and cobra back. 🐍 .

I'd recommend starting off with 3 sets of 8-12 reps for this movement.
