Yoga and weight training is my yin and yang. If you do too much of weight training without the other grounding side which yoga helps you develop...you become a bro. Too much yoga and not enough of the other side, you become a hippie from Forrest Gump ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ by the way, nothing wrong with Forrest Gump! It's one of my favorite movies!

That feeling when Monday is FINALLY over...

i've taken a mini-break from posting because my ql & intercostals have been in spasm & the inflammation has been severe enough to keep me still. i don't feel like myself when i'm not moving my body every day, so, this week, i'm easing back into movement with gentle stretches & mostly neutral work. this mermaid side bend gives length to the locked short muscles on my left side (thank you scoliosis ๐Ÿ˜’). usually, i'd do both sides, but because there's been so much tightness on my left, i'm avoiding lateral flexion L which would just encourage those muscles to stay ๐Ÿ”’๐Ÿ”’๐Ÿ”’

MINDFUL MOVEMENT MONDAY - I love a good 'wiggle crawl' at the beginning of a movement practice. Just letting the movement travel up and down my spine, staying with easy nose breathing and inner body awareness AKA interoception and focusing on coordinating contra-laterally. The foot. Such a complex part of the body, and so fundamentally important for the functioning of other parts of the body in an exercise like side splits. This is non-classsical positioning of the feet, to give the exercise a greater range of motion. I'm looking at the activity of the intrinsic foot musculature, mobility of the subtaler joint, and the ability to stabilise the foot and not collapse the arches as the legs move into adduction. Toes are not gripping. That lift from the arch communicates up the entire medial side of the lower extremity, stabilising the knees and really facilitating force closure of the pelvis (a big theme for lax me, I'll get symphysis pubic pain if that is not happening).
