I very carefully dried and stored some native milkweed pods that I collected from the Indian Lake region in Ohio. I’ve never been very successful growing milkweed from seed, but admittedly I’ve only collected and stratified swamp milkweed seeds. This is not swamp milkweed and it’s as native to Ohio as any species, so I’m hoping for a little luck. Today I’ll plant these in starter pods and put them outside. Some February frosts should get them sprouting in a few months.
The best thing about gardening is knowing there is always a new season around the corner. No matter how the world roars around you, there’s always a little hope. Even if it’s just in some tiny brown seeds. What are you looking forward to this spring?
