In the 1st decade of the 18th cen.10,000/12,000 Indians were slaves according to the governor of La Florida by 1710, observers noted that north Fl. was virtually depop.The few remaining ndns fled west to Pensacola & beyond or east to the vicinity of St.Aug. When 🇪🇸 ceded Florida to 🇬🇧 as part of the #TreatyofParis 1763, the majority of surviving Fl. Ndns took passage with the 🇪🇸 to 🇨🇺 or New 🇪🇸.Origin of the #Seminole During the 1700s, & bands from various tribes from the SE US began moving to unoccupied 🏞 of Fl.1715, Yamasee moved into Florida as allies of the 🇪🇸, after conflicts with the Eng colonies. #mvskoke, 1st primarily, low & up Creek, also started moving into Florida & Georgia. #Mikasuki, #Hitchiti speakers, settled around what is now Lake #miccosukee near Tallahassee. A group of Hitchiti speakers, led by Cowkeeper, settled in what is now Alachua, an area where the 🇪🇸 had maintained 🐄 ranches in 17th cen. 1 of the ranches #ElRanchodelaChua, the region known as the Alachua Prairie. 🇪🇸 in Saint Aug. began calling #Alachua #Creek #Cimarrones, which roughly meant #wildones #runaways.
