Ceremony road trippin with my boy since Thursday - I was so proud of him through the long drive, the cold nights sleeping on the ground in the Bush, long days in camp - he was just the best! So patient, helpful, kind and respectful! Geeeez, I am so grateful for this kid! ♥️😊 #proudmama #roadtrips #sweetchild #miigwetch #grateful #alllove #teachings

Last but certainly not least, meet Sarah!! Sarah Simpson-Yellowquill is an Aboriginal playwright and filmmaker, born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Sarah’s first film, a short film about her personal struggles battling childhood leukaemia, was screened at the Winnipeg Aboriginal Film Festival (2013). During chemotherapy she turned to writing, and from there her passion for arts began to grow.  Now cancer-free, she works as a Nursing Assistant at the Children’s Hospital and follows her passion for writing and film. She is the Social Media Coordinator for Voices in the Circle. -

Meet Charlene, our fearless director! Charlene Diehl is a writer, editor, and performer, with a PhD in English from the University of Manitoba. She has been at the helm of the Winnipeg International Writers Festival since 2003. She has published poetry, essays, and book reviews, and her booklength memoir, Out of Grief, Singing, was shortlisted for two Manitoba Book Awards. Voices in the Circle is a heart-project for Charlene—a chance to share the extraordinary vitality and diversity of Indigenous writing with a wide audience, to invite new writers to explore their own powerful stories, and to work with a determined and resourceful team of young leaders to create a stronger and more equitable community. -
