Ok so since it's my birthday, and my little piece of Insta, I want to tell you a story.
I love history, and the story of King David is my most favorite. I have heard about David and Goliath since I can remember and I still love hearing it and reading it because I discover something new every time!
Even more, I love hearing and reading about his Mighty Men. This will be short for the sake of the post, and may include some of my own interpretation but it's something you should read!
David had a great army. Among them were his great warriors, his
Mighty Men. Among those, a few stood out. One of them was Shammah. He was hanging out in a lentil field when the opposing Philistine army gathered and the Israeli defense fled. Not Shammah. He stood his ground, defended the bean field, and the Lord brought a great victory. One man vs. one army. Over a bean field. I mean, at that time, it was so important because it was a big part of harvest and folks needed to eat. But I'm sure there were other bean fields? I gather that it did not matter to Shammah. It was his bean field to defend. He must have known he was facing certain death, but he knew where his strength was found and was not about to give up his territory.
The fact that Shammah was a man and a skilled warrior does not matter to me. I gather my strength from the same great force. I also believe that for many of us, our greatest battles are not physically fought on the battlefield.
Those fights still demand so much courage, faith, and passion.
I say the above to encourage you, uplift you, and give you hope.
One more thing- our bean field will be adding another little warrior in March 2018!
