THURSDAY is our last last class of the season, and Styles Alexander returns as a guest teacher! Come thru for your final Midday Movement til the fall, Thur 12-2pm at Dance Complex, $5 class fee!
ABOUT STYLES’ CLASS:
Influenced by Gaga, (Ohad Naharin’s movement philosophy )as well a William Forsythe’s choreographic technologies and other improvisational processes- this class focuses on how to utilize an artists personal improvisational style in the context of phrase material. In this class we operate within the duality of freedom of movement in the warm up and prescribed phrasework. The objective is to use the extremes we discover in our improvisational practice to inform our sensory experience while learning and performing work. In this class we create work that serves our experience in the society that we are actually living in.
Styles Alexander graduated from the Boston Conservatory with a B.F.A. In contemporary dance and an emphasis in choreography. While at the Boston Conservatory two of his works were presented on the Boston Conservatory main stage. After graduating, Styles moved to NYC where he worked with artist like; Andrea Miller, Doug Varone, David Dorfman, Idan Sharabi, David Dorfman, Sidra Bell, Shamel Pitts, Jon Bond, along with a few New York based emerging choreographers. Styles currently lives in Boston where he just completed his first season with Urbanity Dance company.
