MOST RECENT

Hayek- As I put it in my recent lectures I am very doubtful whether there is really a justification for a single theoretical science of sociology any more than there is any justification for a single theoretical science of "naturology".
Science has to deal with particular phenomena. It may develop a philosophy which explains how certain complexes of phenomena are ordered, but there are certainly many ordering principles operating operating in forming society, and each is of its own kind. For sociologists to claim otherwise -- well, sociology, in a way, puts it differently -- is due to the same current to which macroeconomics is due in economics. [Swipe for 2nd video]Its, of course, a -- well, I have never used the term before -- "macrosociology" instead of a "microsociology." Microsociology would consist of sciences like economics and linguistics and the theory of law and even the theory of morals; while macrosociology is as much a mistake as macroeconomics is.

Symbolic interactionism and the looking glass self. #microsociology

An Introduction to Social Action Theory.

Social action theorists try to understand and explain human behaviour by looking at how people interpret their world and the actions of others. Unlike structural theorists, social action theorists do not try to explain human behaviour in terms of an objective social structure that passes down norms and values.

This theory is a micro-theoretical approach that focuses on understanding how meaning is generated through processes of social interaction. This perspective assumes that meaning meaning is derived from everyday social interaction, and thus, is a social construct. It also focuses on how we use symbols, like clothing; to communicate with each other, how we create, maintain, and present a coherent self to those around us, and how through social interaction we create and maintain a certain understanding of society and what happens within it.

Individuals are seen as active and react to the social structures around them in very different ways. People do not just passively respond to social norms in institutions and go along with them, rather, we examine them then decide whether to accept or reject certain norms and values. Because individiuals are active interacting with norms, values, and others in social structures, this theory is also called interactionism.

(1). Social Structure vs. Social Action Perspectives

A. Social structure theorists emphasise the importance of institutions (such as family, education, media, religion) in providing stability and regulating social action. They argue that those institutions form a structure that shapes human action and makes it predictable. The focus, therefore, on relationships between social structures and society. It means that position within social structures, like status, roles, institutions determine human behaviour. This perspective is often called macro approach (macrosociology) because it examines society from a larger frame seeking a wide range comparisons of - and explanations for - social condirions. Theories belong to this group are Functionalism and Conflict (Marxism and Feminism)

B. Social action theorists, on the other hand, argue that individuals have freedom in choosing their actions. They also argue that society is more fluid and some interactionists even argue that we are just billions of individual level interactions. Human behaviour is based on individuals' interpretation of a situation and the meaning they give it. This perspective is often called micro approach (microsociology) because it emphasises on interactions between individuals or small groups in a certain context. Sociological theories in this group are Symbolic interactionism and Ethnomethodology.

Bonjour! This I have to share with a hashtag of #transformationtuesday . You could see that most of us in this picture have such a transformative expression and well presentable personality keeping all the sanity and intellect intact. But who knows what lies beneath them? Ha ha ha! Only when you encounter us, you would know! ☺️ By the way this photograph was captured after our successful presentation in the panel on 'Microsociology of Violence' at GIS Asie Congress at Sciences Po, Paris. Miss this bunch of people now! À bientôt ! ❤️☺️

Weber e meus salgados
.
#weber #microsociology #family

"If people define situations as real, they are real in their consequences... Through interactions with others, we construct reality." Laws are social constructs and countries are social constructs. We as humans created these imaginary lines to form what we have come to know as countries. We have socially created laws that help maintain this reality we've constructed. Society created this idea of "illegal" immigration, and we take this idea for granted as being real and belonging in this society we've created. "Illegal" immigration doesn't exist because it has an objective existence (such people "illegally" crossing these imaginary territories). It exists because of our subjective interpretation. We have defined it as real. Society has pushed this reality on us. #thomastheorem #socialconstructionofreality #socialconstruction #socialconstruct #symbolicinteraction #microsociology #illegal #illegalimmigration #sociology #ilovesociology
