Day 23, Favorite Character: Michael Corleone (The Godfather series, Francis Ford Coppola, 1977)
When I first watched these films, I wrote a seven page character analysis for this character. I loved his hesitance to get involved in the mob, and his later dedication to it. He felt like a very full and dynamic character, from his stance in the plot to the way he dressed, to what he's called. In the first film, he's resistant to the family business, is called Michael, and wears his hair combed to the side. In the second films he assumes the role of the don, is called Mikey, and slicks his hair. In the third film, he's reached the end of his career, is called Uncle Mike, and his hair is grey and crew cut. It was said that when his hair was cut for the final film it was like lopping off the locks of Sampson. So much detail and dynamic is packed into his character that I don't only think he's one of the most complex and interesting, but one of the most human as well.
