"Don't you feel any remorse for killing or hurting people?
30 seconds oblivious, awkward silence.
No BK. I don't.
But why Hossein? You're literally taking the life of another human being!?! Imagine if it was your own family?
BK, in war, there is no such thing as thinking and feeling. The only thing a soldier would think about is to live, just for another 5 minutes, 10 minutes, another day. So whatever the obstacle that is in the way, you kill it. No questions ask."
Stories that left me scarred and haunted on survival.
It was here that I met Hossein, a Lebanese soldier who told me stories of when he served in the Lebanon war and why he chose to protect his country, putting his own life at risk.
As courageous as he is to have done that, the war has also left a deep scar inside him. A haunting one. One that he could not put in words and hesitant to relive memories.
Funny how random people come into your life and tell you stories of war, of life and death situations, how power and money run this world we live in today...
