The Meteorite Egg (shiny version). This is the largest & heaviest casting I have ever produced from extra-terrestrial meteorite metal. It was cast from a mold of an egg laid by the now extinct Elephant Bird, which is said to be the largest egg the world has ever known. (Anything larger, the thickness of the shell would have rendered it unfit for purpose). Weighing 26kg, it required 50kg of meteorite metal. Looking closely, you can see a trace of the nikel tinge. In addition to its concern with aesthetics and our understanding of what constitutes a 'perfect form', this work is a poetic exploration into the origins of life / creation and the notion of panspermia (the idea that life came to Earth within a meteorite, as opposed to evolving on the planet itself). No one has been able to definitively disprove this idea yet.
Is also posits the philosophical question: "What came first, the elephant bird or the egg?". Comments from anyone on this conundrum would be welcome!
