It's taken me a few days to settle down after last weekends racial bullshit.
I listened to one of my favorite people talk about this today. Brene brown did a fb live talk and you should go listen to it asap.
Here are a few points she made that stand out to me.
1. We need to start owning our story, our history. It's the only way we can write the ending of this story ourselves.
2. This country was founded and is still run on white supremacy. I hate that it's true.
3. We all are equal. Period. Any thought or deed that dehumanizes any human is the problem.
To change this we need to be honest about our history. It's uncomfortable. It's painful. But it's not nearly as painful as the oppressive actions against innocents. Let that sink in and start making changes.
If you can avoid this because it doesn't affect you...you are one of the very privileged and our help is especially needed. We have to work together.
So what can You do?
Act. Don't stay silent. Use your influence. Share the way you see the world. In the face of hate silence is deadly.
Support the victims.
Educate yourself. Ask people in your community for their stories. Get to know what this looks like for them. Empathize.
Pressure your community leaders for change.
Do your inner work. Where is your shadow? How are you racist? Where can you transform cruelty into love within yourself?
