Greetings from Estonia. Time for another travel building post. The standout feature of the residential architecture in Tallinn is metal work. • 1. The downspouts were the first thing that caught my eye. Almost every building has one—or five—and most snake around facade details in fun ways. • 2. This is a nice example of the extensive metal roof found on almost all buildings, many of which are complex and impressive. • 3. I thought this example of diamond overlapping metal tiles was particularly nice. • 4. This shot has three styles of metal roof in one frame. The one in the back left looks like tile but it’s scalloped metal panels. • 5. The cupola here is cool, but I included this one because it’s a nice example of a feature I hadn’t seen before. That horizontal piece is a sort of built-on gutter (anyone know the correct term?) that directs the water to either side of the roof. Seems like a good system where you’re dealing with snow. • #travelbuilding#estonia#tallinn#tallinnbuilding#metalwork#metalroof#downspout#gutters#finehomebuilding
