Most fabricators know that a huge problem with aluminum fabrication is when you grind it with any kind of an abrasive, it melts so quickly that it gums up your abrasive discs.
The best method I've found to keep my discs clean, is to give them a light spray with anti-spatter/nozzle cleaner.
In a pinch you can use soap, WD-40, or even bees wax, but be aware, they will all leave a small amount of residue in your base material.
That's the main reason I thought to use anti-spatter. It's specifically designed for welding applications, so it won't corrupt your welds.
Just give your abrasive surface a spray every minute or two, (depending on how much consistent grinding you're doing, and it works like a dream). You'll save literally hundreds of dollars in consumables, and spend more time running your grinder, rather than changing discs. Have fun and enjoy! #weldingtipsandtricks #welding #weldeverydamnday
