Our great Metal guitarist of the day is Mr. BRENT HINDS born January 16, 1974 is an American musician best known as a member of the Atlanta, Georgia metal band MASTODON, in which he shares guitar duties with Bill Kelliher and vocal duties with Troy Sanders and Brann Dailor.
Hinds is also lead guitarist/singer for the surfabilly band Fiend Without a Face, and is involved in other projects, including classic rock bands The Blood Vessels, West End Motel, Four Hour Fogger, The Last of the Blue Eyed Devils, Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, and Legend of the Seagullmen. Mastodon’s Brent Hinds may be the most important metal guitarist of the 21st century. The dude’s bizarre approach to leads and soloing has heavily driven Mastodon’s near-flawless discography, allowing the Georgian quartet to reach incredible heights. The erratic nature of his leads on tracks like “Aqua Dementia,” “Capillarian Crest” or “Octopus Has No Friends” has made him one of metal’s most unique players and all-time best riff lords. Watching Brent stay in perfect time onstage or in the studio is jaw-dropping for fans who love to contemplate how to wrap their mind around Hinds’ work. Hinds is truly one of those guitarist who plays his instrument like an extension of his body… his weird, tripped-out body. Originally playing the banjo, Hinds learned his "signature style" of fast hybrid picking by emulating banjo fingerings on guitar. He frequently utilizes the minor pentatonic, natural minor, and the harmonic minor scales in his playing as well as many hammer-ons, pull-offs, and legato slides. On June 12, 2007, Hinds and bandmate Bill Kelliher won the Metal Hammer Golden Gods award for best shredders. #brenthinds #mastodon #billkelliher #progressivemetal #guitars #heavymetal #sludgemetal #guitarist #groovemetal #alternativemetal #guitar #stonermetal #alternativecountry #metalhero #metalguitarist #metalgods #metalguitar #metallegend #geartalk #gibsonguitars #gibsonflyingv #gibsonsg #greatguitarist #greatmusician #melvins #neurosis #troysanders #branndailor #mastodonrocks #mastodons
