I want to share this with you. It's a really neat trade token I found a while back on a metal detecting trip. 🔵The front says "Shifferdecker Park Ass'n...Joplin, MO". The back says "Good For 15¢ In Trade". 🔵A man named Charles Shifferdecker moved from Germany to the United States in 1869 as a teenager. By 1876 he had already started his own bottling & ice business & very soon became one of the wealthiest people in Joplin. 🔵He built banks & invested in land & mining companies. He was responsible for the building of a park so large & with so many amenities it was basically known as the Coney Island of Joplin. 🔵Shifferdecker was a very generous person & gave a lot back to the community. When he passed away in 1915, the city of Joplin closed down for his funeral. 🔵I'm not 100% sure when this token was made, but based on the limited information available about the association & the tokens aluminum composition, I would guess 1900-1930ish. 🔵And what's really neat is that I found this 900 miles from Joplin.
