Enter the 2000s
By the end of the 90s, the Grand Marquis remained a sales success, becoming the top selling Mercury line. While this was highly profitable, it posed a problem for Mercury dealers, as the age of the buyers were higher than Lincoln-Mercury dealers wanted. Over the next decade they made efforts to attract younger buyers, but struggled to appeal to them. Mercury’s full-size and mid-sized sedans preformed well, Mercury phased out smaller cars in favor of SUVs and minivans.
