I nearly didn't post this because it's not my 'usual' post... but decided that I shouldn't let that determine what I share here. So please indulge me in a Proud Parenting Moment (hey I have lots of Not Proud ones too, don't worry 😉). I recently read #memfox's gorgeous new book to my 6 year old son. It's a wonderful and gentle look at Australia's multicultural society, and the many Aussie families who move here from all over the world, including from countries that currently aren't safe. He was concerned that some refugee kids and families are forced to stay in detention, which he thought sounded like 'jail'. He worried they might be lonely, and thought they should also get to live here and go to school like he does. So he suggested that we ask the Boss of Australia to let them out (swipe right). And hopes to receive a reply soon.
We deliberately don't watch the news around the kids, so it's a little heart-breaking to see him starting to comprehend some of these troubled sides of humanity. But on the other hand, it gives me hope to see him considering his role in the world. When I asked why he wanted to write a letter, he said: "I want to be a helper." ❤️
