I was feeling a little less flexible this morning after taking some time off yoga ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ˜… Itโ€™s nice to be reminded that yoga is so much more than just stretching ๐Ÿฅจ

That photo was taken by @rubinutama before my whole right side body was upset with me. The right side of the body, is connected and governed by the left hemisphere of the brain. It's the active side, related to analysing, doing, planning...I have been an independent worker for 6 years now, and as much as I like it, it seems my body is giving signs of imbalances. And so I am learning to soften, to do less, to ask for help, to seek wellness over perfection. It's humbling. Has it happened to you before? Are you listening to the wisdom of the body? โค๏ธ

HANDS-ON PRACTICAL YTT
The best way to reinforce learning is to revisit the material and practise what youโ€™ve learnt. The integration of new skills starts from imitation, so in the Ihana Yoga's 200h YTT we will implement learning structure - โ€œsee one, do one, teach oneโ€. Each weekend you will be guided through a practical session lead by one of teacher trainers. You will then receive that class plan to practise again at home. We also encourage offering the same sequence to your colleagues, family, friends or loved-ones at least once between the sessions in a safe environment to practise teaching. This will prepare you to practise teaching your fellow yoga teacher trainees the following weekend, and eventually prepare you to teach real-life classes once you graduate.
The practicum progresses systematically too. At the beginning, the main thing is to get up there and talk to the group to get used to public speaking. The lecturer will give feedback mainly on the physical and verbal communication as well as the projection of the voice. As the modules go by, the feedback will go deeper in the teachings of the given class plan and at some stage the students can start presenting their own class plans too, so the feedback will also cover their class planning and sequencing. About half way through the training the students will start practising assisting each other too. Finally the bar is raised again, as each trainee only teaches one pose in a workshoppy manner and the feedback will be geared towards anatomically correct alignment cues. This is taken further by adding injury/pregnancy considerations. Finally everything comes together at the end with the trainees planning their own flows, teaching and cueing poses rather than simply naming them, assisting each other during the practicum and offering variations and modifications for the most common health issues, injuries and prenatal students. Upon graduation, you'll be confident to step on the mat and start getting real life teaching experience, as a fully qualified yoga teacher. The flow for this month's classes (at 2x speed). We've been focusing on strengthening the front body and core. This morning's sankalpa (intention) was to bring awareness to our inherent strength and power that's already there within ourselves, and believing and trusting in ourselves. This built up to our peak pose, which was Bakasana (Crow), with lots of options for building up to taking flight! There's an uncomfortable feeling through the back of my neck in this pose that causes my mind to become frustrated and upset. I haven't decided yet wether it's the physical discomfort or the emotions that arise that is harder to sit with, but I've recently come to realise that it has everything to do with the energetic blockage of my throat chakra ๐Ÿ˜ช
.
Our throat chakra is linked to our ability to communicate clearly, and especially to speak our truth. Childhood abuse survivors often develop a survival strategy of filtering what they say out of fear of triggering a negative response. Healing the trauma housed in my throat chakra will be a lifelong journey and I am so humbly grateful to have my Yoga practice to aid me through this ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ“ฟ

I remember when my brother @_sucr3_ and I were kids, we would play in shoulder stand not even knowing what Yoga was! So now when I come to shoulder stand I bring those memories to the forefront of my mind and play with different variations trying to have fun like my bro and I did as kids! I also act with compassion by edging off placing too much pressure on my neck by not coming into full alignment ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿฝ

Remember that they say... the more a certain pose sucks, the more you need it! Sometimes it's just about transforming the way you see it and feeling out ways in which you can make it feel good for you. Their words still seem so revolutionary and bold in this modern day, and to think they spoke their words at a time where such a declaration of their sexuality would have been disdainfully frowned upon! So much of who I am as a woman today has been largely inspired by the thoughts of these brave women! Stepping on my mat and moving through asana is an act of self enquiry, what does my body need today โ“๐Ÿค”

Most days I'm either on one end of the spectrum or the other, meaning my practice is either dynamic and fast paced or likely grounded and still. Some days I'm neither black or white and find myself floating through shades of grey such as this this snippet of my pre class flow ๐Ÿ–ค
.
These transitions aren't very "controlled" which don't make it look very fancy, but sometimes you honestly just need to roll around looking for yummy ways to open up! I've been storing a lot of tension through the hips and neck these past few days, and these deep stretches were exactly what I needed to restore balance within. What did YOUR body need today? ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ•‰

These winds of change got me feeling so grateful to have you by my side ๐Ÿ’จ๐ŸŒ€

My personal life experience has allowed me to evolve in a way where I adapt well to change, in fact I thrive on it! Whether it be a change of place or mental space, I've come to realise that change is all about letting something/someone go to create space. It all boils down to perception... I can be excited about what will now fill this space, or I can be fearful of the unknown. So again its about asking myself whether I am functioning from a place of love or fear... and again I chose LOVE ๐Ÿ’Ÿ๐Ÿ’œ

Seeing change from a place of love allows me to connect deeper with my gratitude practice! I am reminded of how damn lucky I am to have the support of my peers and loved ones, to feel blessed for the abundance of opportunity and the resources to facilitate such change, and last but not least to have a man that chooses everyday to love me and walk by my side ๐Ÿ‘ซ๐Ÿถ
.
I don't write much on social media about my personal relationship mostly because words cannot begin to describe the level of love and respect I have for this beautiful man, but this post in large pays particular homage for the utmost appreciation I have for him and the excitement I have for this new chapter we are about to embark on together. None of this would have been possible without you, but I want to thank you most for how your love fuels me to raise my heart high into the heavens! Ethereal spark embodied in shape of man...
