A building very similar to this one has stood here for a long time. It was built in the 16th century and it was uded to weigh and store goods. Over the years, the 21-meter-tall timbered house became the very symbol of traditional Braunschweig. In the Nazi time, it housed the party’s youth organisation and then got destroyed during World War Two. In the 90s, a reconstruction of the original building was made and by now, it is an adult education centre.
