"The early bird catches the worm. A stitch in time saves nine. He who hesitates is lost. We can’t pretend we haven’t been told. We’ve all heard the proverbs, heard the philosophers, heard our grandparents warning us about wasted time, heard the damn poets urging us to ‘seize the day’. Still sometimes we have to see for ourselves. We have to make our own mistakes. We have to learn our own lessons. We have to sweep today’s possibility under tomorrow’s rug until we can’t anymore, until we finally understand for ourselves, what Benjamin Franklin meant. That knowing is better than wondering, that waking is better than sleeping. And that even the biggest failure, even the worst most intractable mistake beats the hell out of never trying. Total nuisance, of course. But also, quite possibly, the best brother in the world.
Here in the role of Esteban, my fabulous hair-stylist. Made me laugh for a good three minutes. Then I remembered how much studying I need to do, and stopped.

Don't mind me (or our poor pot-less fern😂), I'm just here studying in my backyard wishing I was at @hotelsaintcecilia .... #findyourhappy #medschoolgrind

Got to spend a few days out in Colorado with my bro before he starts med school. See you in 8 years Dr. Davis. #medschoolgrind

Monday was my first day as an M3, and I'm starting with the Internal Medicine clerkship. Thankfully I am starting for three weeks on outpatient Medicine, which is helping me ease the transition into third year. Though we have been in the clinic a lot as first and second years, our capacity and role have really changed this year. We have more responsibility, more knowledge to know, and more riding on our performance. However, it's super fun. Learning at Mayo has always been so enjoyable for me, with kind preceptors, interested and invested residents and fellows, and fun med students. ••••••••
Today I'm in clinic for the first half of the day. Our clinic structure is that we get our own patients scheduled, while our preceptor sees other patients. When we are ready to present, we find our preceptor and together we go back into the room to see the patient. It's an interesting transition now thinking about management and treatment of ailments, instead of trying to stuff all the knowledge of the disease process into my head. Don't get me wrong I still do that too, but the focus now is on synthesizing the information we know and completing the visit including assessment and plan.
What do you have going on Today?

You know you always wondered what medical board exam studying looked like didn't you?!? Behold, answer choices from A to N. While all of you played on your swan floaties and drank margaritas by the pool, this was my 4th. July 11th cant get here soon enough. #funtimes #medschoolgrind #arewethereyet

Highest point in Thailand: 2565.3341 meters above sea level. Met a guy that biked it up in 3.5 hours. His cute son was so proud💪

Beach shenanigans. I'm gonna miss all my Selective friends!!❤️🙏

A few sights and sounds of the Chiang Mai Night Market🙏

Great leg day hiking and being with nature.
This is Wachirathan Falls which is 80m in height. It was flowing pretty rapidly because of the rainy season. Sometimes one can see a rainbow but not today because of the many clouds. So peaceful and amazing!🙏❤️ #nature #hiking #chiangmai #thailand

God: The best designer there ever will be. Found this beauty at #whitesands and had to snap a picture because it stopped me in my tracks. Finding it made me wish I was still working in the design field because this seed pod definitely inspired me. Maybe I still have "it"? I'm not sure but once my board exams are over and my personal statement is written for residency applications, I think I'm going to get back at it. How? I'm not sure. But after last weekend, it became crystal clear that my soul needs a creative outlet. #medschoolgrind #designgeek #supersoulsunday #thanksbetogod

First time having Khao Soi, a popular dish of Chiang Mai and the north. Omg where have you been all my life?!❤️🙏🤗 #foodie #thailand #chiangmai

What a truly amazing experience today!! Fed and played with rescued elephants. It was so peaceful just watching them.
Please support elephant sanctuaries. NOT elephant trekking, which is riding them. It decreases their lifespans and not meant for humans riding on them for hours a day. Don't support elephants doing tricks, they have been abused and pulled from their mothers at birth.
These elephants are so gentle, happy and smart. Like dogs, if raised in a positive way, are very loving. And vice versa.
I am so blessed to support an amazing organization that promotes the welfare of elephants in Thailand.❤️🙏

New friend from Chicago!! So awesome to meet you Katie and looking forward to our paths crossing again! ❤️🙏
