Monday was my first day as an M3, and I'm starting with the Internal Medicine clerkship. Thankfully I am starting for three weeks on outpatient Medicine, which is helping me ease the transition into third year. Though we have been in the clinic a lot as first and second years, our capacity and role have really changed this year. We have more responsibility, more knowledge to know, and more riding on our performance. However, it's super fun. Learning at Mayo has always been so enjoyable for me, with kind preceptors, interested and invested residents and fellows, and fun med students. ••••••••
Today I'm in clinic for the first half of the day. Our clinic structure is that we get our own patients scheduled, while our preceptor sees other patients. When we are ready to present, we find our preceptor and together we go back into the room to see the patient. It's an interesting transition now thinking about management and treatment of ailments, instead of trying to stuff all the knowledge of the disease process into my head. Don't get me wrong I still do that too, but the focus now is on synthesizing the information we know and completing the visit including assessment and plan.
What do you have going on Today?
