Baklava tart

1 cup mixed nuts
3/4 tsp cinnamon powder
1/4 cup honey
1/2 cup golden syrup
1 tsp vanilla

Blits the nuts in a blender till course.
Mix nuts with cinnamon powder

In a bowl mix honey, syrup and vanilla.
Mix the syrup and honey with the nuts.

Shortcrust pastry:
1 1/2 cup plain flour
1 tsp sugar
3/4 cup cold cubed butter.
2 tbsp ice cold water.
Rub the flour and butter using your finger tips until you get consistency of fine breadcrumbs.

Add 2 tbsp water and quickly form a dough and chill for 20 mins. **better to make the dough in a food processor.

Grease a 8" tart tin with butter.
Roll the dough out, into a round disk between cling film, making sure it's larger then your tart tin.

Open one side of the cling film, and slowly, Put the disk on top of the tart tin. Press lightly to mould the disk into the tin.
Put the tin in the fridge for 20 mins.

Preheat oven 180c
Blind bake 10 mins
Spread the nut mixture evenly on top and bake for 25 mins or until your pastry looks golden and crispy.
Let it cool down for 10 mins then serve with icecream.

HEALTHIER VEGAN BAKALAVA .
A Very popular and delicious Mediterranean dessert, BAKALAVA! But not just any bakalava.... VEGAN BAKALAVA! This treat is healthier than your traditional bakalava because there is no butter and no refined sugar. Instead, you get brain boosting coconut oil and lower glycemic coconut sugar
INGREDIENTS:

1 package of thin Fillo Dough

1 cup melted coconut oil

1 cup crushed unsalted pistachios

3 cups coconut sugar

1/2 lemon

Water
DIRECTIONS

For syrup...
.
1) Add coconut sugar to a sauce pan

2) fill the saucepan with water so it's about an inch above the water, and let it boil until you get a little thinner than a maple syrup consistency. Add in the juice of half a lemon

3) let cool completely on fridge .
For bakalava... .
1) preheat oven to 375 ยฐF

2) grease a baking dish with coconut oil

3) open up the filli dough and layer 2 sheets on the bottom of the pan

4) with a silicone brush, thinly brush a layer of coconut oil on the fillo dough. Make sure to get corners

5) layer another 2 sheets of fillo dough on top

6) repeat steps 4 and 5 until you are half way through your sheets. You may or may not finish all your coconut oil

7) evenly spread the pistachios on top

8) repeat steps 4 and 5 until you are out of fillo dough

7) bake for 20-30 minutes until golden

8) pour cold syrup evenly over the hot bakalava. Refridgerate and serve cold

I'll be posting few of my Facebook recipes on here for everyone that's not on Facebook. This is one of the first recipes I put up on Facebook and I really like basbousa hope you guys try the recipe and like it too In'sha Allah.
Basbousa

1 cup coarse semolina
1 cup plain yogurt
1 cup desiccated coconut
1 1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup whole almonds
4 tbsp butter
1 egg
1 tsp baking powder
Preheat oven 180c

In a bowl melt butter(done it in the microwave for 20 secs)
To the butter add 1/2 cup sugar and stir in till dissolved.
Whisk an egg and mix in. (Optional but I like adding the egg)
Mix in the yogurt.
Add in the semolina and mix.
Add in the desiccated coconut and mix.
Last add the baking powder and mix.
If the batter looks too thick can add few drops of water to make it more smooth.
Grease baking tray or dish and pour the batter.
Using a knife make diamond shapes cutting through the batter and place an almond on each diamond shape.
Place the tray in the oven and bake for 30 mins. Keep it bit longer if you like it more darker in colour.
Meantime make a syrup:
Boil 1 cup water with 1 cup sugar and 1 tsp rose water to make a runny syrup.
Once the basbousa is baked, get out the oven, cut through the faint diamond shape lines again and pour the syrup all over and let it sit for 1/2 hour before taking out the tray and serving. #basbousa #mediterraneandessert #iftar #ramadan2017 #myrecipe #ramadanrecipes_honufa
