Some people are taking the #ParksRx initiative to exciting new extremes! Meet Bill Sycalik, who is running 26.2 miles in all 59 national parks to raise awareness about YOUR public lands. Hawai‘i Volcanoes is the 50th park Bill is running. He took off from the Ka‘ū Desert Trailhead around 9 a.m. today. Friends Mark and Myunggi are running parts of the journey with him. (Mark is also running to help raise awareness for rare brain disease, with a goal to run a 5K in all 50 states. Hawai‘i is his 50th!) Bill wants to convince others that preserving national parks is good for the parks, and for YOU. He says you get energized and relaxed simultaneously when you hit the trail, or walk through the forest, or run a marathon through a volcanic landscape. We couldn’t agree more!
