Cows do not belong in rivers! Fish, insects, eels, birds belong in rivers. I snapped this photo along the privately owned farm part of a @docgovtnz track. As someone who's background is in environmental science, seeing this deeply disappointed me. Rivers in NZ are not in a good way, this is due to increasing farming and urbanisation. Rivers play such a vital role in our ecosystem. Our freshwater needs to be properly valued, respected and cared for.
Voting opened in NZ today. If you are eligible to vote please vote for those less fortunate than you- vote for the environment, vote for the 10% of NZers who are homeless, vote for future generations who are going to inherit this earth, vote for those in shoddy rental houses, vote for farmers who can be educated on smart farming. Party Vote @nzgreenparty. Sorry, I'm not sorry to get super political on a Monday morning. Voting is so important, and I urge you to get out there and do the right thing.
P.S. check out the TEDx talk "who is the polluter, the farmer or the consumer" to see what I mean about smart farming.
